How to Use DOWSIL™ C60

Surface Preparation
Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from dust, oils, old sealant, or other contaminants.

Non-porous surfaces: Clean with a lint-free cloth and solvent (e.g. DOWSIL™ R-40 Universal Cleaner).

Porous surfaces: Mechanically clean using a wire brush or sanding disc.

Masking & Tooling
Mask off areas to ensure clean lines. Remove masking immediately after tooling. Tool the joint within 5 minutes of application for best finish and adhesion.

Priming
Priming is generally not required for PVC-U and most common substrates. Test before full application or consult the Dow Primer Guide for specific recommendations.

Back-Up Materials
Use closed-cell polyethylene backer rod to ensure correct joint depth and avoid three-sided adhesion.

Joint Design

Minimum joint width: 6 mm

Joints 6–12 mm wide: 6 mm depth

Joints >12 mm wide: use 2:1 width-to-depth ratio

Fillet joints: Minimum 6 mm contact on each surface

Clean-Up
Remove excess uncured sealant from tools and smooth surfaces using DOWSIL™ R-40 Cleaner. Cured sealant may need mechanical removal. Avoid damaging coated or plastic surfaces.

Safety Note:
Always use solvents with adequate ventilation. Keep away from heat and open flames. Wear solvent-resistant gloves.
